  1. My learning contract

    1. What are you going to learn this academic year? (what are the learning outcomes, what is to be learned?)

During the first year of the sports and exercise science course I believe I will develop a basic knowledge of the introduction of the psychological, biomechanics and physiological principles of sport. This will ensure that I have the correct knowledge to further deepen my knowledge during the second and third years.

    2. What is the best way to achieve those learning outcomes? (activities, strategies, tasks, environmental conditions. Attitude, behaviours)

For me, my favourite way to revise and make sure that I learn the knowledge is to write notes during lectures and practicals and then rewrite them after the session to make sure I can intake the knowledge. I also have to be very enthusiastic towards each module and lesson to make sure I maximise the amount of effort put into the course. Finally I must make sure that I arrive to each lesson on time so I do not miss any important information related to the course.

3.How will your learning and accomplishments being monitored?

My progress will be monitored mostly through feedback by my teacher and myself of hand-ins and assessments to make that I am taking in the correct information and I am keeping up to date with all of the outside of lecture work.

4.What are the roles and responsibilities of those involved in your learning?

The role of my teacher is to provide me with the knowledge needed to pass the course and to make sure that I am completing any work set my them and if i return it on time, they are also responsible for helping me with any module related problems that I have. Another person that has a responsibility to make sure I am learning is myself, I must make sure I am completing all work by the deadlines and I am attending all lectures and lab sessions.

  2. There are primarily three different types of leadership and they are: Autocratic, Democratic and Laissez-faire.
Autocratic leaders make decisions without consulting their team members, even if their input would be useful. This can be appropriate when you need to make decisions quickly, when there’s no need for team input, and when team agreement isn’t necessary for a successful outcome. However, this style can be demoralizing, and it can lead to high levels of absenteeism.

Democratic leaders make the final decisions, but they include team members in the decision-making process. They encourage creativity, and people are often highly engaged in projects and decisions. As a result, team members tend to have high job satisfaction and high productivity. This is not always an effective style to use, though, when you need to make a quick decision.

Laissez-faire leaders give their team members a lot of freedom in how they do their work, and how they set their deadlines. They provide support with resources and advice if needed, but otherwise they don’t get involved. This autonomy can lead to high job satisfaction, but it can be damaging if team members don’t manage their time well, or if they don’t have the knowledge, skills, or self-motivation to do their work effectively. (Laissez-faire leadership can also occur when managers don’t have control over their work and their people.)

  3. The learning contract

    1) What are you going to learn this academic year? (what are the learning outcomes, what is to be learned?)
I am going to be learning about the basic principles and theories of psychology in a sports science setting. I will hopefully get a top mark to allow me to have confidence going into second year (hopefully over 70% for a first). For this to happen I will need to develop a good understanding in such areas as different personalities and how these will help or hinder sport or activities for the performer. Also about Motivation and how self efficacy can be achieved to allow the optimum area for confident performance. With other areas which are identified in the module handbook. I really need to understand every aspect of these areas so that i can use these in later years to allow myself to use psychological principles to evaluate and predict performance in a sport science setting.

    2) What is the best way to achieve those learning outcomes? (activities, strategies, tasks, environmental conditions. Attitude, behaviours)
I will need to concentrate in lectures and seminars and make accurate notes to allow a good understanding of the topics. Also to do further reading in my own time to not only go over what we have done in lectures but to further my understanding beyond what is expected to raise my confidence in the area for further years. I will set clear goals of what I need to achieve weekly so I am organized and don’t lose track of what is needed to be done.

    3) How will your learning and accomplishments being monitored?

As I have stated I will set clear goals each week and tick them off when I feel I have a good understanding of the aim and have developed my understanding. I will also try the additional questions given so I can test my learning to make sure I am understanding the content.

    4) What are the roles and responsibilities of those involved in your learning?

To respect people’s opinions and also to contribute to discussion so we can learn by other people’s opinions and ideas, and give constructive critique on what we think of the ideas to further our knowledge. In group work we need to contribute evenly to the team so everything is fair and we all get good understanding of the topic.

  4. week 1-3 Find useful articles, journals and books and highlight key information and try to understand it
